When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
+Atk / -Res
The best IVs for Alfred are +Atk and -Res. His Atk is a superboon and is very high at base 45, further boosted by Self-Improver.
While Def is also a very important stat, Self-Improver boosts it by a hefty +20, which is enough to function as a sturdy physical tank.
His Res is below average and is even reduced further by Self-Improver, making it a dump stat.
+Atk for a +10 merge
We recommend +Atk when merging Alfred up to +10 to improve his offensive performance. His physical bulk is already sufficient with Self-Improver.

How to Use, Explanation
Alfred's skills and stats work best with a bulky physical attacker set. Atk/Def Menace is used to extend his Atk/Def stat lead on his foes further. Atk/Def Catch synergizes with the debuffs from Menace.

Alfred is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.
Alfred Strengths
Arcane Qiang as multiple in-combat effects
Alfred's Arcane Lance, Arcane Qiang, accelerates his Special trigger, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5, grants a follow-up attack while denying his foe's own follow-up attack, and grants Special charges per attack if the initiator moved to a different space.
This inheritable Arcane weapon is perfect for units who wish to trigger their Specials often. 3 cooldown Specials like Bonfire trigger after one attack, while Galeforce can be charged up in one round of combat.
Self-Improver grants a lot of bonus stats and inflicts Guard
Alfred's exclusive skill Self-Improver grants Atk+10, Spd+5, and Def+20, in return for inflicting Res-5.
Additionally, it also applies a Guard effect onto the foe during combat.
The raw stats turn Alfred into a very formidable physical tank, and can even be used to win Def checks due to the nature of raw stats over in-combat bonuses.

Weak to Cavalry Effective Weapons
Alfred takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Thani or Binding Reginleif, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
