A year ago today, I had my very first day at SoSafe. Can you believe it's been a year already? Time certainly has its own rhythm at SoSafe. From day one, I was told that SoSafe time moves twice as fast as the "real world." I was skeptical at first, but now I'm the one passing on the wisdom to our newest Safeys. ⏰It's not about having more hours in a day or wielding a Time-Turner like Hermione Granger; it's about the abundance of experiences and learnings we encounter every single day. 💡At SoSafe, every day is a new adventure, often kicking off before I've even finished my morning coffee. Is it scary? Yes. But I do it anyway, because Pippi Longstocking had a point when she said: "I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that." 💪Here's to another year that feels like two as we continue towards human risk management, go on new adventures and championing radical peer accountability in our work/life balance while we travel to the moon and back. 🌙 #sosafe #teamwork #achievementunlocked

As a professor of leadership and critical literacy, I often get asked about the practical application of the these concepts in the real world. And I'm often overwhelmed, by just how many applications there are. In the first 5 minutes of a JetBlue flight today there was a glowing example of the need for the most basic components of critical literacy, empathy for the human condition and commitment to community health. In an era in which the greed and a desire for even greater, more exorbitant profit margins and executive bonuses has not only pushed corporations to further dehumanize their customer base, they've also successfully trained too many of our peers to substitute allegiance to hierarchical and oppressive policies in place of something much more important, -- much more valuable-- basic human care and a recognition of our shared interdependence. On a packed JetBlue flight, I watched as employees of this organization (that in its early days touted itself as a people-centered organization) belittled and disrespected the very customers it claims to serve. With an entire cabin crew that felt comfortable dehumanizing, belitting, and antagonizing an entire set of passangers with words like, "I'm in charge" or worse yet, "I don't have time for your stupidity," --- a comment that was made to me when I inquired about the reasoning behind some of the restrictive policies -- This raises questions about whether we can place blame on the policy of these organizations that we know are profit-first in their interest or whether we as employees must question the ways in which we allow non-human entities to dictate the values that we live by. I admonish us to consider the latter. The 🍒 on top... is the empty rows of seats on an otherwise full flight in which people are packed in and visibly pained, during a time in which basic health precautions necessitate social distancing, the removal of meals from even transnational flights, and the ferocity with which even front facing employees attack and belittle customers who dare to question inhumane policies.Note: the trays were put down to prevent any customer (regardless of need) from seeking basic normative comfort on a flight on which the lack of space between seats has even small children having to raise their knees. Is this who we are?And more importantly, is it who we want to be?#CriticalLiteracy #PeopleOverProfits #JetBlue

The current attrition rates of first responders are mind blowing across most states and territories in Australia. The years of knowledge and skills walking out the door, has significant costs to the community. The promotion of a safe and secure work place is no longer the case, with the aspect of being overloaded with workl and burnout from exhaustion. Staff in these areas are doing the best they can with what they have, learning from who remains. The difference between experience and expertise lies in their nature and development. Experience refers to the practical knowledge and skills gained through direct involvement and exposure to a particular activity or field. It is acquired through hands-on practice, observation, and learning from real-life situations. On the other hand, expertise refers to a high level of proficiency and mastery in a specific area or subject. It is often the result of extensive experience combined with continuous learning, studying, and refining one's skills and knowledge. Expertise goes beyond mere familiarity with a task or field and involves a deep understanding and ability to perform at an advanced level. While experience is essential for building expertise, it is possible to have experience without necessarily becoming an expert. Experience provides the foundation for expertise, but it is the deliberate effort to learn, improve, and specialize that transforms experience into expertise. In summary, experience is the accumulation of practical knowledge gained through direct involvement, while expertise is the advanced level of skill and understanding achieved through continuous learning and development. Both are valuable in their own right, but expertise represents a higher level of proficiency and specialized knowledge in a particular area. The sun will rise again tomorrow, but how many more have left such an important role for the community..#Resilience #Strength #OvercomingAdversity#positivemindset #friendship #family #beyondblue #redsix #change #veterans #defence #mentalhealthawareness #torodesolutions #redsix #blackdoginstitute #phoenix_australia #depressionsupport #like #mentalhealthsupport #selfcare #selfreminder #behappy #anxietysupport #australia #depressionsupport #mindfullife #mentalhealthmatters #lifeline #h2hpodcast #ntpol #vicpol #wapol#qpol #sapol #taspol #actpol #nswpol #afp #emergencyservices #ambulance Sent from my Galaxy

If you see someone trying hard, tell them! 💕 It's amazing how a small compliment can go a long way. As someone who always notices the little things about a company or person, I make it a point to pay compliments whenever I can. You never know when that person might need that little boost. In Australia, there are a remarkable 2.65 million carers who selflessly provide unpaid care and support to their family or friends. It's a testament to our Aussie spirit – the way we wholeheartedly care for one another. Yet, it's crucial to understand that this role is not without its challenges; it can be demanding and quite stressful.During this special occasion of National Carers Week, let's come together to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness about our carers. As a community, it's important that we extend even greater gratitude and support their way. Here are some ways you, your business, your community, or your organisation can make a difference for our carers: https://lnkd.in/dciand-VCollectively, we can make a significant impact in the lives of those who give so generously of themselves for the well-being of their loved ones.Let's together care for the 2.65 million carers!#NationalCarersWeek #NCW2023 #MillionsOfReasonsToCare

Great watch here! See how the sentiment became contagious from just one idea to do something special. As we work on budgets, projections, and all other business goals for the day, week, month, and year, why is it so hard to remember that we work with people all day and everyday? Even during our non-work related hours of the day, it’s about people. Budgets, projections, and all business goals are more achievable when we think about the people first.
