hi again I'm now considering and researching the kia soul , does anyone have any views. Probably a 2013/14 kia soul mainly school runs of about 20 mile round trip twice a day ( 40 ish miles total ) each trip is about 3miles town/slow drive and 17 miles 50 - 60mph . I added about the miles relative to possibility of a diesel over a petrol. As a second question ,I've seen a 2014 soul mk1 diesel 30k . Upto the first mot 2017 it did about 21k then I'm presuming ( not spoken to anyone yet ) it got a second owner and every mot till then has done 2k ish per year the only mot issue was one year advisory on tyres . BUT should I worry about the dpf not getting hot enough to regen during those low miles over the years or would a good motorway run be enough to sort it. thanks for all the help your lot have given now and in the past Reply | Report as offensive Link |

Still haven't made your mind up.? Depends which diesel it is.. A Soul is just a Venga in drag.. a 7-8 year old diesel? Has it had all the services done by a Kia dealer? The Mk1 souls were nothing to write home about.. Go for a 1.4 petrol manual Venga if you want the raised seating position, or a 1.2 or 1.4 Rio. If you prefer the torque of a turbo Diesel engine then take the additional risk and buy one. Just factor in the possibility of costly problems at some point. I personally prefer them too from a drivers perspective. The Polo 1.2 TDi I bought for swmbo to commute to university ended up staying with us for 5 years despite the usage latterly being unsuitable for a DPF equipped diesel. I just took it for a run occasionally to keep it happy. I was however able to fund the cost of any potential repairs or weather the total loss of the car. As long as you are too and you prefer a diesel then go get one but buy only with a full main dealer service history. My wee Polo had a full VW and later genuine VW specialist service history, it had everything done on schedule and never wanted for anything. It still required an EGR valve but fortunately this was done under warranty from VW. The 1.6 Kia/Hyundai diesel is generally good as is Honda’s 1.6 DTEC. They’re probably the only two modern DPF equipped 4cyl diesels I’d buy today but again I’d plan for costly repairs. The whole life cost is likely to be higher than a petrol for your usage thanks to higher repair costs but if you find this is worth the cost for the more relaxed drive of a diesel then go get one. I do currently have a petrol and a diesel car but the latter cost twice your budget and is a well regarded D5 Volvo. I think the risk worthwhile on this as I favour it to petrol on a large SUV.
